In 1998 Umicore decides to create a Venture Unit. The objectives of this unit are to promote the generation of business ideas, to create an environment to put these ideas on the market rapidly and to stimulate the spirit of enterprise.
These objectives will be achieved through an internal programme of venture-type initiatives and by acquiring shares in venture capital funds.
The Venture Unit provides backup for the business units by managing small-scale operations with a high return potential in the medium and long term.
The internal portfolio focuses on the Advanced Materials business lines.
